Mondre Energy Selected by Upper
Darby Township for Energy Efficiency and Conservation Strategy
Development
(May 26, 2010 PHILADELPHIA) Mondre
Energy, Inc. (MEI), a leading energy strategies firm based in Philadelphia, has
been selected by Upper Darby Township to assist with planning and implementation
of energy efficiency and conservation strategies for the Township.
MEIs work for the Township will
include the establishment of energy conservation goals; performing baseline
studies of Township energy use, implementing outreach to the community and
neighboring municipalities, and working to identify potential funding sources
for ongoing energy efficiency investments.
The Townships energy planning efforts are being funded by a federal
Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant.
During the competitive selection
process, MEIs proposal demonstrated that the firm is the most qualified and
experienced to assist the Township with reducing energy costs and improving the
environment, said Upper Darby Mayor Thomas Micozzie. Both of these factors reinforce the
Townships role in serving the residents of Upper Darby.
Energy costs are a major line item
in municipal budgets and a number of factors, such as the coming removal of PECO
rate caps in 2011, will only add to long-term cost uncertainty, said Judith L.
Mondre, founder and president of Mondre Energy. Forward-thinking municipalities like
Upper Darby are being proactive in addressing the need for greater energy
efficiency. Not only can this
offset Township costs, but it can have a significantly positive impact on the
environment.
Mondre Energy has extensive
experience serving municipal and government clients in areas including energy
efficiency, cost reduction, and energy procurement. Conservation strategies often focus on
lighting, heating and cooling, and fleet management. We are looking forward to working with
Township staff and residents in helping them identify, understand, and implement
opportunities to use energy more efficiently, Mondre said.
MEI provides energy
conservation and cost-control strategies for commercial, industrial,
educational, government, and non-profit organizations. MEI is a woman-owned
business bringing together an experienced and highly skilled team of experts in
data analysis, engineering, information systems and technology, law, regulation,
communications, and management. MEI clients have saved hundreds of millions of
dollars in energy costs through strategies including energy audits, procurement,
utility management, building design and construction efficiencies, and the smart
implementation of alternative and renewable energy sources. Learn more at

Mondre Energy, Inc. Lowers
Electricity Costs for Diocese of Scranton
(February 5, 2010 PHILADELPHIA)
Mondre Energy, Inc. (MEI), a leading energy strategies firm based in
Philadelphia, will save the Diocese of Scranton on average more than 14 percent
in electricity costs over the next two years. The savings cover approximately
240 separate electricity accounts in Diocesan churches, rectories, schools,
convents, and other facilities. Savings for the Dioceses GS1 category accounts
will exceed 19 percent.
Electricity costs are a significant
budget item for any diocese, especially one like Scranton with many older
facilities, said Robert Miller, chief financial officer for the Diocese of
Scranton. Mondre Energy has provided us with a skill set and experience in
energy management that we estimate will lower our electricity costs by $275,000.
Working with MEI saves us money and allows the Diocese to focus more on its core
mission.
The
Diocese of Scranton is located within the PPL electric utility service area. The
removal of electricity rate caps for PPL at the beginning of 2010 allows
institutional and residential customers in the area to purchase electricity from
competing third-party suppliers. With an extensive background in energy
procurement, Mondre Energy analyzed the Dioceses historic usage patterns and
negotiated a two-year contract for electricity that, on average, lowers the
Dioceses electricity rates by 14.1 percent.
The
procurement of electricity is just one strategy Mondre Energy has used to help
the Diocese understand and manage its energy costs. A recent audit of a sample
of Diocesan buildings by MEI identified a number of additional steps the Diocese
can take to reduce electricity consumption.
Aggressive procurement
strategies can significantly lower electricity costs for institutional users,
said Judith Mondre, founder and president of Mondre Energy. Electricity rate
caps will expire throughout Pennsylvania by next year. We are encouraging our
clients to begin planning now so they can take full advantage of all saving
opportunities.
Mondre Energy Named Member of State
Evaluation Team for Act 129; Will Measure Energy Conservation Efforts in
Pennsylvania
(December 14, 2009 PHILADELPHIA)
Mondre Energy, Inc. (MEI), a leading energy strategies firm based in
Philadelphia, is part of a three-member team that will evaluate the success of
Pennsylvania Act 129. The Act requires Pennsylvanias investor-owned electricity
distribution companies to meet energy conservation goals.
Act 129
was signed into law in 2008, and requires the states seven investor-owned
electricity distribution companies (EDCs) to reduce customers electric
consumption by at least three percent, and peak demand by at least 4.5 percent,
by 2013. The EDCs covered by the Act include PECO, PP&L, Allegheny,
Duquesne, Penn Power, Met Ed, and Penelec. The evaluation team is working under
the auspices of Pennsylvanias Public Utility Commission (PUC).
Act 129
was developed to encourage energy efficiency and lower energy costs in the
state, said Judith L. Mondre, president of Mondre Energy. To meet those goals,
however, it is necessary to develop protocols for collecting and analyzing data,
standardizing measurement and verification techniques, and to understand the
cost effectiveness of conservation efforts. Our work as part of the statewide
evaluation team will make that possible.
MEI was
chosen for the project by the lead contractor, Marietta, GA-based GDS
Associates. We selected Mondre Energy for our evaluation team because of their
considerable expertise with and knowledge of energy efficiency issues in
Pennsylvania, said Richard F. Spellman, president of GDS. The third member of
the evaluation team is Nexant, Inc. of San Francisco, CA.
The evaluation team will
work closely with the Public Utility Commission and the EDCs both to develop an
evaluation and audit process, as well as to verify that the evaluations are
accurate and represent the actual impact of the energy efficiency and
conservation programs. The evaluation team will report the EDCs progress to the
PUC annually, and will provide a final report on the entire five-year effort in
2013
